Karl Fehrle, a 102 year-old member of the Chatham Mens Club, was named the Grand Marshal of the 2024 Chatham Independence Day Parade.
Fehrle, a World War II Veteran, was a unanimous choice of this year’s Parade Committee. Karl has been a long time member of the Chatham Band. Anyone who has ever attended a Friday Night Band Concert has surely heard his solo rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” on saxophone. Additionally, Karl is a member of several other local bands.
In 2021 the Chatham Mens Club honored Karl during one of its Covid Zoom Meetings just before he turned 100. In addition to several gifts he received a proclamation from then Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker citing his reaching this milestone birthday.
During World War II Karl served gallantly in North Africa and Italy. Several years ago he and one of his son in laws returned to visit the communities where Karl was stationed.
The Chatham Mens Club proudly congratulates Karl as the recipient this most prestigious honor.
