GUESS WHAT’S CELEBRATING ITS CENTENNIAL?
The next time you happen to be visiting the Chatham Community Center check out its cornerstone. Yes, construction of the building which so admirably plays host to the Chatham Mens Club’s weekly meetings from April to May started 100 years ago!
The building initially housed the Chatham School which opened in 1926. Many generations of Chatham citizens point to the building as where they went to school. Ultimately when a new school facility opened town meeting appropriated the funds to renovate the building. Space was added to the rear of the building to augment its size to 27,000 square feet of space at an overall of cost of $6.9 Million. The ribbon cutting occurred in 2007.
As a community we are very fortunate to have this facility at our disposal for so many citizens of all ages to enjoy.
